Blackrock Centre was built in 1984 and is only 4 miles from both Dun Laoghaire (the major town in the borough) and Dublin City Centre. It is on the main arterial route and well serviced by both bus services and the Dart (Dublin area rapid transport) train service. The Centre was developed, anchored and managed by Superquinn. Car parking is provided for 400 cars.

The Blackrock Centre is a two level Centre with entrances to both levels from the street. Travellators and staircases connect both levels. It is based on a village concept, with natural shrubs and trees. The Superquinn supermarket is located on the upper mall and occupies 2500sqm, with 42 other units of various sizes occupying 4000 sq m. The centre offers shoppers a wide range of ladies, gents and children fashions, footwear, gifts, household furnishings and two restaurant facilities.

The centre is strategically placed between the Frascati Shopping Centre, anchored by Debenhams and including a Mark's & Spencer's food store and the village of Blackrock with many fine stores, pubs, coffee shops and restaurants.
